This week, we are joined by two board members from BABA, Black Applied Behavior Analysts. Dr. danyelle beal is a Clinical Psychologist whose dissertation research focused on resiliency factors in Black women who have survived trauma in their youth. She obtained her undergraduate degree at CSU Long Beach in Child Development and Psychology with a minor in Communicative Disorders and went on to obtain a Master’s of Art in Teaching (Deaf and Hard of Hearing Studies) with an emphasis in Applied Behavioral Analysis. Camille "Cammie" Williams is a Black, lesbian, cisgender woman who holds the title Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Her work focuses on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), social justice, autism and exceptional needs services, mentorship, advocacy for Ovarian Cancer and systematic self-love & self-care.Today we will talk about Trauma Assumed Care and the need for support for Black Clinicians and the Black Families they service. This week, we welcome Dr. Lerman who is currently a Professor of Behavior Analysis at the University of Houston - Clear Lake, where she directs a master’s program in behavior analysis and serves as Director of the UHCL Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities. Dr. Lerman has published more than 80 research articles and chapters, served as Editor-in-Chief for The Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis and Behavior Analysis in Practice and has secured more than $2 million in grants and contracts to support her work. Dr. Kazemi is a tenured professor at California State University, Northridge where she teaches undergraduate and graduate coursework in behavior analysis, organizational behavior management, and research methodology. Dr. Kazemi joins us today to discuss quality management in the autism community, safeguards, and measuring results in the field of ABA. This week we welcome Dr. Adithyan Rajaraman to the podcast to talk about compassionate care in the ABA field. This is a crucial ABA therapy subject, because ABA therapy is a type of care and caring is based on compassion. We know compassion can foster trust, leading to better communication between a patient and their provider, improving care quality. For 14 years Dr. Rajaraman has taught, interacted with, and learned from children and adolescents of all abilities. He joined the faculty at UMBC after earning his doctorate in BA from Western New England University. He now serves as a mentor to psychology students at the undergraduate and graduate levels and has published research in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavior Analysis in Practice, and Autism. Her sons Chris and Alex are now 10 and 6 years old. Jessica navigated the diagnosis of her boys, retiring from the Air Force and relocating from Louisiana to Michigan all while researching the best supports for her family such as therapies, interventions, her community, and school. Now also working as a Behavior Technician recruiter for ABS Kids, Jessica brings a unique view of the autism community through her experiences. We are excited to talk about what she learned along the way, and ongoing challenges, especially how the wide support options out there for families can intersect, collaborate, and even possibly compete.
